In my dream – memories, dreams, reflections

istanbul_vers reduiteThe song I’m presenting to you today was composed long time ago, at the beginning of my composition work.

Since I launched this web site, I tend to take more time to compose a song. I think it’s because my self expectations are growing. However in earlier days, I was often finishing a song in one day only, and this song “Dans mon rêve – in my dream” was written at that time.

All the songs I’ve composed until now originated from different inspirations and stories, and were completed in different environments. Because of that, each song is unique for me. The reason why I don’t usually rework the initially composed songs using the technique I have acquired since this moment is also to keep their uniqueness. Their imperfection is also a part of their characteristics and I simply accept that being perfect is relative.

Above all, this song was born in France but was finished while I was travelling in Turkey. Istanbul’s beauty and richness contributed to this song. There were landscapes I had never seen before. I felt like I was in a dream. And Istanbul was a city in which different histories and cultures coexist; and they make a good ensemble.

carl-jungAnother interesting point with this song is that during my trip, I was reading an autobiography of Carl Jung “Memories, dreams, reflections”. At first I was scared: there were so many difficult words, and it was a bulky book with more than 700 pages. (Note: I read the book in French, I’ve been speaking French for 8 years and I’ve never studied psychology in my life).
However while reading the book, I was impressed by Jung’s pure passion for his studies and analysis throughout his entire life. I thought that he was born to be a psychologist and to mark a milestone in psychology.

For Jung, dreams have an important role. They are a kind of connection between the conscious and unconscious parts of the mind. The unconscious, invisible part wants to communicate with the conscious, and this appears as dreams.

Voilà, this song was born in that context. I hope you enjoy it.

On February, I’ll present “When you smile”, as scheduled. You can already listen to an excerpt of the song on this page. If you want to share with us a photo which reminds you a happy souvenir, feel free to contact me.
