Starry night

This song sings my memories of a starry night in a summer day.

Ingredients of this potion : “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” my childhood memories, summer sounds, Starry night over the Rhone by Van Gogh, fireworks on july 14th in France…

  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

In the middle of the song, you’ll notice a passage that was inspired by this English lullaby. One says this song was written for the first time by Mozart or it is an English folk song. But I just discovered that it was created in the 18th century in France. I really like its simple but beautiful and soft melody. (source : wikipedia) Continue reading

Like the sea

Scenery Wave

We are now in the summer (in France). It’s not usually my favourite season, but after having a gloomy spring this year, I’m finally happy to see the summer coming in Paris.

These days, as my philosophy changes: Pursue your dream, enjoying each present moment, I’m trying to appreciate the beauty of each season. It clearly helps to pass hot summer days easier.

Summer makes me think of the sea. My country (South Korea) is surrounded by the sea, and with my family I used to spend summer vacations in the seaside.

Yes, you guess it! The 4 songs I’ll present you today are about the sea. Continue reading

Dancing dog (Original version)

panoramaToday’s song is delight and joyful. It’s inspired by our loyal friends, the dogs.

Here is the story behind this song : I wanted to make a song with this kind of rhythm, which  may make you think of The Sting’s main theme song “The Entertainer”. My song is less fun than Entertainer’s but more lovely!

Then, I started to look for inspirations that can suit this kind of rhythm, and I thought of dogs who are always delight and happily running everywhere. Continue reading

Looking for you, A man’s desperate heart

Solip’s note: Sorrow is part of our life and our emotions; it’s also my source of inspiration. Voilà, today, my song is sad. It makes you think of a film noir… If you don’t want to listen to this song, I can understand it, you come by here to relax with my melodies, so I ask you to wait for the next post. I promise you that next time I’ll present something happy.

I. About the song
Starry_Night_Over_the_Rhone 400x250會者定離. This four character Chinese idiom means nothing is eternal in human relationships. You meet someone, but you also separate with someone else. We repeat this throughout our life. In fact, this process of encounter and separation is part of our daily life.

Today’s song is sad. It describes a man’s desperate heart that lost his lover. I composed this song fully based on my imagination. Continue reading

Mémoire de toi : Remembering Friendship

Just after high school, I left Korea and went to France to continue my studies there.

At first, I was just excited to be in an unknown location where nobody knows me. I couldn’t speak French at that time. Everyday was an adventure, with lots of things to discover. All the things were new there.

We hear that everything in the world has two sides, and we all know that we can’t have only good things. On the other side of that pleasure et adventure, there was loneliness. In fact, this was the first time in my life that I understood what loneliness means. As time went by, I became familiar with my life in France, and I started missing my family and my coutry. When you smile: Love viewed by children

Painting LoveAdult love is sometimes quite complex. Of course, it comes from experiences and it is often based on one’s philosophy and wisdom, there are also thoughts, prejudice, and conditions. However throughout history love described by children has been viewed as pure, innocent, and simple by many people including artists and authors.

This song started from a children’s smile. Its main theme is love, more precisely love that you make smile. Continue reading

In my dream – memories, dreams, reflections

istanbul_vers reduiteThe song I’m presenting to you today was composed long time ago, at the beginning of my composition work.

Since I launched this web site, I tend to take more time to compose a song. I think it’s because my self expectations are growing. However in earlier days, I was often finishing a song in one day only, and this song “Dans mon rêve – in my dream” was written at that time.

All the songs I’ve composed until now originated from different inspirations and stories, and were completed in different environments. Continue reading

Aussi triste pour un petit coup de vent : my message for sad people

Dedicated to the Depressed

Lee Hae-in
Translated by MoonJa LUM

Speak softly and speak from the heart,Candle
say a silent prayer as you
Look into the windows of our souls,
and warm our hearts and minds,
with your kind and gentle eyes.

Sometimes we may withdraw,
To be alone.
Wait patiently.
It is not a time to blame, nor a time to teach.
Is it
Keep an open mind
and when we smile – smile with us
and when we cry – cry with us.
Thus begins the path to help our hearts and minds.

First of all, I’m deeply grateful to my family in the US for translating this poem in English. This Korean poem, « Dedicated to the Depressed », written by Lee Hae in, suits well the first song I present you in 2013 : « Aussi triste pour un petit coup de vent », in English, we can call it « so sad for a breath of wind ». This poem influenced this song and my thoughts on this subject. (Note : the original poem is written from the point of view of the author, who teaches us how to confort the sad people) Continue reading

My winter story, Piano vocalise in D major

I’m writing to you from South Korea, my country of birth. I’m staying here for a couple of days. It’s already snowing a lot here, like if the sky has a big hole. Streets are really a mess. Yesterday it took us 3 hours to come back home because of the snow even though it usually takes only 15 minutes.

As we were blocked in the car, I looked at other cars next to us. I saw lots of people stressed, frowning or despaired. No doubt that they were late for an appointment or other rendez vous. Also no one likes being blocked in his car for 3 hours.

And suddenly, I saw a mini bus full of children coming back from school. They looked so happy to see the snow falling. At the entry of my village, I saw other children playing in the snow, running, shouting, and laughing. It seemed to me that they were the happiest children in the world 🙂 Continue reading

I’m offering you a morning sunshine

As you can guess from the title, this song is about the sun and the morning, and actually inspired from a morning sunshine. I wrote this song with the point of view of the sun, who is informing everyone that a new morning has come.

Simply thinking about a morning sunshine can make you happy, it seems that it make you forget all of yesterday’s worries and promises us a new good day.
